Why?
Dear Fearless Friends,
When we work on bringing our dreams to life, even when we are doing what we love, there will be days when we might question our “Why?”.
“Why did I choose to go down this path?”
“Why didn’t I stay on the easy and familiar route?”
“Is it all worth it?”
“How am I going to create it?”
“What’s going to happen next?”
“Do I have what it takes?”
“Do I want this enough?”
When these questions come up, know that you are not alone. We, each of us, experience our own doubts and fears at some point along our journey. And the more something means to us, the more we may be tempted to question it.
This month we talk about leadership: At its core, leadership is our ability to remain connected to our own why, to be guided by our values and our dreams, and to draw strength and courage from the power of our vision. Even on days when our voices of fear will inevitably question us.
I have journeyed a long time, grown a lot and come so far to do what I love. But even now I have those moments – perhaps more so now that I am closer to what I love! - when my fears demand that I run through the full gamut of questioning “why?”, “how?”, “what?”, “when?”, “who?”, “where?”…and “why?” again.
Only I know – as you do in your heart – just why we long for the result that means so much to us, what our vision is, and that we will create it – never mind the how, and when, and who, and what, and where.
On the ‘days of questions’, I allow myself to question, but rather than trying to find answers I don’t have, I choose to listen again to the one answer I do have: “Why am I really doing this, in my heart?”…and everything suddenly makes sense again.
As I said to someone this morning:
“It's a journey of growth. Sometimes it feels uphill and I wonder why I didn't stay on the trodden path. Then I remember how much I've longed to do this and how privileged I am to do something I love. And it all makes sense again.”
Know that whatever your journey, you are on this path for a reason – your true reason.
All you need to do is stay connected to the light of your vision, even if that’s all you can see for now. The rest will be revealed in time.
